Singer-songwriter Kate Weekes, formerly of the Yukon, will return to Whitehorse from Ontario to release Taken by Surprise, her new album, on Thursday.

Weekes lived in the Yukon for about 12 years, and has spent half the year here since 2015.

She recorded many projects, working with such current and former Yukoners as Keitha Clark, Boyd Benjamin, Grant Simpson and Bob Hamilton at Old Crow Recording.

The lastest album is the first Weekes has made outside the Yukon.

She will be performing with her producer, James Stephens. He will be in the Yukon working with the Fiddleheads and the Smithers youth fiddle group who are coming next weekend.

Weekes and Stephens will be performing in the schools as part of the Community School Touring program in Faro, Ross River and Carmacks.

The Whitehorse release is set for 7:30 p.m. in the United Church basement.

The event is being supported by the Whitehorse Folk Society.
