The Yukon Party has unveiled several ways to support healthy families.
The party said this week it recognizes that improvements are required to integrate different types of care across the territory’s health and social system.
It said its proposed changes would contribute to the health and wellness while supporting the healthy beginnings of young Yukoners.
“Healthy, prosperous lives begin with healthy beginnings,” said party leader Currie Dixon.
“Our team is committed to supporting Yukon mothers, mothers-to-be and families throughout the territory in order to ensure our future generations are provided with the very best start possible.”
A Yukon Party government would:
• Work with groups providing the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program in the Yukon to enhance supports for pregnant women, new mothers, and babies.
• Support the ongoing efforts to ensure midwifery becomes a regulated, funded system as an option for Yukon families if they so choose.
• Explore avenues to support families, which struggle with fertility, including a tax-credit for invitro fertilization (IVF) treatments.

We often hear about students arriving at school with no breakfast in them and some don't have a lunch some days either. I would rather their parents take more ownership in this situation, but time will not wait for many of them to see the light. To this end I suggest a meals program be established for elementary school aged students so they may be healthy and ready to learn when they come to class.

The government should not be and should never be involved in families. Government needs to fix its own house - It is unable to successfully negotiate its own relationships let alone give advice on others.

Stay away from Poly Clinics. The Health report done by Bruce McLennon, was mandated to cut costs while providing care. CUT COSTS. Every file will be assigned to a Social Worker. Polys are so cheap to run, that virtually every government in the world has tried them. Poly has such a bad rep now that in England they are rebranding them to "Intergrated Healh Care" and turning them back into primary and family health care clinics. Poly clinics do not work. They were tried in Toronto and failed. Many are still operating as specialized clinics, Psychiatry, another Child PolyClinc, even a Cannabis Clinic. In a Poly Clinic, doctors are replaced by cheaper Nurse Practitioners. Nurses are replaced with Practical Nurses. You will be triaged to see a Doctor, and you get whoever they throw at you. Half our Doctors will be gone.
One, they don't have to put up with the *hit from the Liberal government.
Two, they can live better and do better in the United States where Doctors are at a premium.
It's about cost cutting, not about the patient. I go to a female doctor for a reason. Covid has placed an unreasonable amount of traffic on Emerge. You can't go into your Dr. office and ask if she can see you, you are sick. Say, a bladder infection. Non lethal, but sooo extremely unpleasant. Before covid, an hour later you had your script and on your way. Now, you get a 6 hour wait and a stick up your nose in emerge, and whatever doctor happens to be in there. Perhaps this is preparing us for having to see whoever we are stuck with? The other, huge drawback to me? *Private commercial organizations will be better placed to bid for and run them, potentially undermining the health practice mandates. We all saw with covid what happens when business takes over. In BC, the Continuing Care facilities operated by private businesses failed to provide nutrition, failed to provide safety, failed even to treat bed sores. The highest number of senior deaths, by far, were in business operated facilities where the care standards are relaxed for the sake of the God almighty dollar.

I could post a thousand of these. But, its a start. Investigate for yourselves. The existing poly clinics now don't have staff, the net is spammed with ads for doctors and nurses. Personally? I think, we don't need to make this change here. Doctors currently own their facilities. But, it will be cheaper to kick them out and put our care out to tender. How many of us will die?

...or we start at the very bottom. Introduce a real health and nutrition class in and for ALL ages. Learn the importance of where our food comes from and how the 110+ minerals and vitamins on the planet are needed to support a strong, healthy immune system that can tackle ALL of the viruses on this planet. Learn the importance of eating organic foods and a balanced diet. Learn the importance of fresh, clean drinking water that's not tainted through plastic. This is just a dream though because the fact of the matter is they don't actually want a healthy population cause there's NO money in it..
