The highway had closed from the Dempster Corner (km 675) into Henderson Corner (km 691; upstream of Rock Creek) due to high Klondike River water from the Henderson Corner area flowing onto the road. There’s a massive ice jam near the community.
Overnight, crews built a berm along the Klondike River side of the highway.
The artery’s status could change at any time, depending on water conditions.
Between 25 and 30 people have left their Henderson Corner homes, staying with relatives, friends or in Dawson hotels.
Meanwhile, the flood warning for the ice-jammed Klondike River was updated Wednesday evening.
It remains in place, with more details about the Henderson Corner flooding which has affected some properties.
