On Wednesday, 136 lots, including single-family, townhouses and multi-family lots, were released by public lottery and tender in the Whistle Bend subdivision. This is the first land lottery for Whistle Bend of 2024.
As the main land developer in the territory, the Yukon government said, the latest lot release builds on its commitment to making land available to Yukoners.
Wednesday’s lot release includes 87 single-family lots, 47 townhouses and two multi-family lots in the western area of the subdivision.
The residential lots will be sold with a three-year building commitment and a five-year agreement for sale.
The townhouse and multi-family lots will be sold with a three-year building commitment and a three-year agreement for sale.
Applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. May 8, and the draw will take place on May 14.
Releasing these lots now will allow purchasers to begin planning their building projects, the government said.
This is the first land lottery for Whistle Bend of 2024.
“As the population of Whitehorse and the Yukon grows, we continue to develop and make land available to meet the needs of Yukoners,” said Energy, Mines and Resources Minister John Streicker.
“We’re developing Whistle Bend with mixed zoning and releasing a range of lot sizes to meet this growing demand. We look forward to more Yukoners making Whistle Bend their home.”
Community Services Minister Richard Mostyn called housing “a priority for our government, and we continue to deliver building lots year after year in advance of construction seasons.
“People want to make the Yukon their home, and we will continue our efforts to increase the supply of land across the territory to help make this a reality.”
When complete in four to six years, Whistle Bend will comprise $300 million worth of investment and provide a full-service, sustainable neighbourhood of more than 2,000 lots to accommodate the capital’s growing population.
The government is investing $25 million to $30 million annually to develop and release lots in the Yukon.
More land lotteries will take place this summer for lots in several Yukon communities.
