If you're calling Nav Canada, beware. You might just find yourself on "America's hottest talk line” instead.

If you're calling Nav Canada, beware. You might just find yourself on "America's hottest talk line” instead.

Since at least Wednesday afternoon, anyone who has called the Nav Canada number listed for its air traffic services career opportunities and information (1-800-667-4636) was instead taken to a recording.

"Welcome to America's hottest talk line,” an upbeat female voice greets callers dialing into one of Nav Canada's number listed in the 2013/2014 Northwestel directory.

"Ladies” are then directed to press 1 to "talk to interesting and exciting guys free,” while "guys” are told that "hot ladies” are waiting to talk to them if they press 2.

The other numbers listed for Nav Canada in the current Northwestel directory – their customer service centre at 1-800-876-4693 and their media line at 1-888-562-8226 – both direct callers to Nav Canada.

In an interview this morning, Northwestel spokesman Eric Clement explained that Nav Canada changed their air traffic services and information number to 1-877-389-9934 and eventually another business – America's hottest talk line – took over the number.

While Northwestel automatically changes local numbers in its directory, it is up to Yellow Pages to inform Northwestel of changes to Outside business numbers for directory purposes.

In this case, said Clement, Yellow Pages didn't inform Northwestel of the change so the previous number went into the directory. While Nav Canada has also informed Northwestel of changes in the past, that also didn't happen this time around, he said.

Clement said it has since been changed for those calling directory assistance looking for Nav Canada's numbers and will be changed in next years' directory.

He was not sure when the number was changed, nor when the chat line business took over the number.
