GOLDEN STATE ADVENTURE – Ross River musician Elvis Presley (his real name) was selected over hundreds of other applicants for the chance to record with Los Angeles producer Angelo Bundini.

Musician strikes a chord in L.A.

Fate hasn't been cruel to Elvis Presley.

Fate hasn't been cruel to Elvis Presley.

For the last several weeks, Presley, past territorial election candidate and local media darling, has been in Los Angeles recording two of 10 songs for an upcoming double album called Eternal Truths.

"The King” of Ross River was selected over hundreds of applicants for the chance to record alongside L.A. producer Angelo Bundini— who goes by the stage-name Scrote.

Bundini is a producer, guitarist and performer who has worked with the likes of Ricki-Lee Jones, singer-songwriters Daniel Johnston and Brandi Shearer, and session musicians like Wayne Kramer of the iconic Detroit garage rock group MC5.

Bundini Music put out a call for submissions on various promotional websites, including LinkedIn and Sonic Bits, where they found Elvis.

"Bundini Music went to my electronic press kit and listened to every song,” Presley said in an interview. "They liked my vibes.”

The producer said he settled on Presley for his "gravely, rockabilly, country” sound.

"I didn't know his backstory,” he told the Star this week. "We thought he had an interesting, cool voice.

"We didn't know who he was, even if he was a person or a band. When he e-mailed us, we got a bit more of the story, and when he said he could make it down, we got the whole story. He's an interesting guy.”

Bundini said he has worked with all kinds, so meeting the Yukon's version of the King wasn't much of a shock.

"I've done everything from electronic music to punk rock,” he said.

"I am known as an experimental guitar player, so I have done some very eclectic work. Elvis wasn't too far from the norm for me.”

Scrote has agreed to produce the first 10 tracks of the 14-song album.

He has paired Presley with a team of professional session musicians, including drummer Jerry Roe, grandson of Jerry Reed, the real-life Presley's first guitar player.

The result will be a double-album of all-original material by the Yukon Presley.

His songs Candy, the story of a Vancouver prostitute, and You Left Me Here to Bleed, about a traffic accident victim will be two of the more notable tracks on the album, said Presley.

"What I told Elvis is that we want to keep his sound but add a modern feel to it,” said Bundini.

"I told him I'd like to keep it current, but he's got this rockabilly, country thing on his own. He's not Elvis; he's Elvis 2012. That's how we are framing it.”

After years of self-promotion, Presley finally feels his efforts are beginning to pay off.

"I have applied for every contest and grant that you can think of,” said Presley.

"I have often sent my music in to judges and they have tried to hold me back, but now I think it has really taken off.”

Presley, who also visited Las Vegas for a short vacation, returns to the Yukon today.

There is no word yet on when the album will be complete, but Presley says he'd like to head back to L.A. soon.

"They are so friendly down there; it's really a great place to work. I can't wait to head down and record the rest of the tracks.”

In my mind, he is and always will be Tagish Elvis.

I've seen him play numerous times, avoided parking next to his figurine encrusted Cadillac in the Extra-Foods parking lot, and was cheering him on when he made an appearance on Dragon's Den.

He is truly one of Yukon's Colourful 5% and next to minerals, our best export.

Besides, anyone who Larry Flint tags as 'Asshole of the month' can't be all that bad!

All the best Gilbert, err I mean Elvis!
