Yukon MP Larry Bagnell's constituency grew by one member Wednesday afternoon as he and wife Melissa Craig welcomed their baby daughter, Aurora Sage, into the world.

"It's pretty exciting, a pretty amazing experience," Bagnell said this morning of being on hand in the delivery room at Whitehorse General Hospital.

"It was quite a miracle to see the birth."

Born at 5:53 p.m., little Aurora Sage weighed in at seven pounds, six ounces, and, according to Bagnell, shares some of his features.

"She's got lots of hair, that's for sure," he said with a chuckle. "We thought the first thing was to go to the barber's."

Bagnell and Craig, who were married last year in Dawson City, did not waste any time adding to their family, and both are very excited to be new parents.

"We feel very lucky to have a wonderful daughter," Craig said.

The 58-year-old Bagnell, who was re-elected as MP on Oct. 14, said he expects balancing fatherhood and politics to give him a better idea of what all busy parents go through.

"It will be another challenge, but all parents have challenges, and I think I'll start to understand what that's like," he said.
