Whitehorse RCMP have provided their first update in two weeks on a missing Whitehorse woman.

Police said today the case is an active missing person investigation “related to Deanna Bailey.

“Police are in touch with Ms. Bailey’s family about the progress in the file,” they said.

“Police are continuing to work with partner agencies and specialized police units, and have appreciated the support that has come from the public and those close to Ms. Bailey.”

Also known by the name Dee, Bailey, 45, was reported missing Jan. 21 after last having been seen the previous morning.

“We understand how difficult it is to not have answers in a situation like this one,” said Whitehorse RCMP Operations NCO Sgt. Jolene Nason.

“There are certain investigative steps related to waterways in the area that will have to wait until spring if she is not located before then, in order to ensure the safety of people involved in the search.

“Everyone involved in this investigation is working towards its resolution.”

Investigators believe Bailey may have spoken with a man sometime on Jan. 20 near the trails by the Yukon River.

Police hope to follow up with this man, who is not a suspect and who is not believed to have been involved in the longtime artist’s disappearance.

“He may be able to provide relevant information to police. He is described as being approximately 60 years old, with grey hair, and was driving a maroon vehicle.”

Police said when further updates are available, they will be shared with Bailey’s family first.

“Further details will be released to the public/media when appropriate and while respecting the privacy of those involved.

“Police appreciate how widely information has been shared about this missing person file and the engagement from the public.”
