Masks now required at all Yukon airports
Non-medical masks are now mandatory at all Yukon airports.
Non-medical masks are now mandatory at all Yukon airports.
Individuals entering the building or the airport terminal will be required to wear a non-medical mask or face covering, the territorial government said Tuesday. This is in addition to the measures announced by Transport Canada on April 20.
“As travel restrictions begin to lift, an increase in airport traffic is anticipated throughout the summer months,” the government said.
“These additional protective measures will help slow the spread of COVID-19 and ensure passengers and airport staff are able to maintain the same level of safety obtained from physical distancing, particularly at crowded sections such as security checkpoints and check-in lines.”
It’s advised that people only enter the airport if it’s absolutely essential.
Yukoners are encouraged to use the free parking or the cell-phone waiting lot when picking up passengers.
Wearing a mask alone will not prevent the spread of COVID-19. All Yukoners must strictly adhere to good hygiene and public health measures such as frequent hand washing and physical distancing, the government noted.
Non-medical face masks or face coverings should allow for easy breathing and fit securely to the head with ties or ear loops.

@Ginger Johnson
I was at the airport today and many people weren't wearing masks. No one tackling them at the door either. Huh!

Observer/Communicators. Ever heard of those????? These are the only qualified people IN THE TERRITORY to run and operate an Airport. They are in very short supply and many of them at retiring age. The majority of them work for contractors who cannot afford to extend additional health coverage to their employees. Community Airports provide weather information that is published nationally, pass pertinent information to pilots, i.e. current weather condition, possible existing air traffic and also provide after hour standby coverage for emergencies, search and rescue as well as medevacs. It just make sense to protect these essential worker. Everyone above them (YG) are working from home.

Take better care of yourselves... it's only a virus, one with extremely low infection rate and even lower death rate. Virus only grow in acidic environments, balance your pH level and NEVER get sick again. Simple research proves this, stop watching reality TV and ask some questions you're afraid to answer!

You know you live in a relatively well off society when people like Matthew and One One-Lesser-Voice complain about having to wear a mask...

Another charter of rights violation that Ross Mercer and the others can add to their challenge.
Who will be enforcing this?

There is no scientific evidence to support the wearing of non-medical masks to prevent transmission of any respiratory contagion. The social and political pressure being brought to bear on the "authorities" to impose these kinds of rules is extraordinary.
This is not an insubstantial rule, with insignificant consequences to the wearer.
Our governments are out-of-control.

Do you have to bring your own mask or do they have some available at the entrance?
