The RCMP have arrested a man for a series of alleged offences possibly related to a recent spree of dine-and-dashing in downtown Whitehorse.

Local police had issued a warrant for the arrest of 29-year-old Brandon Webb.

Early last Friday afternoon, they received a call reporting him to be in a vehicle around the Two Mile Hill area, according to an RCMP statement.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspect got out of the car and tried to run. He was arrested shortly afterward without further incident.

Last Saturday, Webb was arraigned on 15 charges for offences ranging from theft of cigarettes and driving under the influence to resisting a police officer, according to court documents.

“In addition to multiple warrants for charges related to property crime and impaired driving, Brandon Webb now also has an additional charge of resisting a police officer in the execution of their duties,” said Const. Carlie McCann.

Webb remained in custody this morning. He had a bail hearing scheduled for early this afternoon.

The alleged offences all took place between July 8 and Aug. 11.

They include four accusations of stealing or fraudulently obtaining food from restaurants.

Webb is charged for offences allegedly committed at the Casa Loma Bar, the Kopper King, Petro Canada and the Ridge Pub and Grill in Whitehorse, along with Andrea’s Hotel in Watson Lake.

Other charges include:

  • driving while prohibited from doing so;

  • possessing stolen or otherwise illicitly obtained goods;

  • probation violations; and

  • using illegally obtained credit and debit cards.

Several Facebook posts made before the arrest allege a group of people had dine-and-dashed at a series of restaurants in Whitehorse – ditching $800 worth of bills along the way.

A few restaurants even posted pictures of people on social media they say walked out on their bills to warn other local businesses not to serve them.

G & P on Main Street made a post on Aug. 7 accusing a group of walking out on a $250 bill.

“Just such a crappy thing to do to our hard-working people,” the post reads.

“You kids need to stop doing this and start making it right. Pay us what you owe us and maybe tip your server too.”

Responses to this post question whether the RCMP would take action.

“Whitehorse RCMP appreciate engagement from the public after the publication of information about Brandon Webb’s warrants on August 10,” police said.

Man faces long list of criminal charges Should read "PUNK" faces long list of criminal charges, That "PUNK" has been in and out of the (IN)Justice system for waaay too long and costing us waaay too much money, It's time to send him to Big Boys Jail for awhile and see how long he lasts. Maybe he will find out he's not as tough as he thinks, my bet is he'll be traded for a pack of smokes and a chocolate bar in no time.

Glad he got caught. To bad the justice system will just let him walk.
