An Alberta man has been arrested in British Columbia following an armed robbery near Carmacks last Friday morning.

At about 4:24 a.m. that day, Carmacks RCMP were notified of the robbery, police said Tuesday afternoon.

The complainant reported that he and another person had been awakened by an intruder at their accommodations in a rural mining area by kilometre 62 of the Mount Hansen Road near Carmacks.

“When one of the victims confronted the intruder, he was immediately bear sprayed,” police said.

“Both victims were able to secure themselves in a safe location.

“The intruder then stole an F-150 truck and left the location.”

Both victims were treated at the Carmacks Health Centre and later released.

The investigation identified a suspect known to police. The suspect made his way to British Columbia in the stolen vehicle.

He was arrested near Quesnel last Friday evening, after having evaded the RCMP in several jurisdictions, including Fort Nelson, Fort St. John and Prince George.

William Nadeau, 44, of Hinton, Alta., was remanded to the Prince George Regional Correctional Centre until his next court appearance March 1 to face charges in relation to offences allegedly committed in British Columbia.

Once he has dealt with those matters, Nadeau will have to address the following criminal charges in the Yukon:

• robbery;

• assault with a weapon;

• break and enter;

• theft of a truck;

• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;

• wearing a disguise with an intent to commit a crime;

• mischief; and

• attempted forcible confinement.

Carmacks RCMP are asking anyone who may have information regarding this or similar occurrences to contact them at 867-863-2677.

Hard to say what that nut case would be doing back in those mountains in Feburary.
I know the area well, I would say he most likely broke into camps in his trek.

Not 6 months, they'll say, poor thing was cold and hungry - time served. End of story.

@ Eric. Right, according to an online driving distance calculator it's 1910 km from Carmack's to Quesnel via the shortest route. Over let's say a 14 hour time span that's averaging 136 km/h which means a real speed of about 150 km/h accounting for any stops for gas and slowing when needed. He obviously did it but I wouldn't want to drive the roads he took at those speeds.

There must be more to this story. What was he doing 60 km out in the Mount Nanson Rd. for starters. That must have been some scary for those guys, no help out there.

Whse Star dig deeper.

Wow, his Yukon crimes should net him about 6 months with time served.
