By Whitehorse Star on March 1, 2022

The Yukon Liquor Corp. is removing its sole Russian-made product from its shelves.

According to a news release issued Monday afternoon, in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the corporation will no longer buy or sell products made in Russia for the foreseeable future.

“Effective immediately, Russian Standard will be removed from the Yukon Liquor Corporation’s six liquor stores and warehouse,” the statement said.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and strongly support the federal government’s efforts to sanction Russia,” said Ranj Pillai, the minister responsible for the corporation.

“I have directed the Yukon Liquor Corporation to remove any Russian-made products from liquor store shelves in the Yukon.”

The corporation stocks one product produced in Russia.

Licensees make their own decisions about the availability of Russian-made products.

The stores will accept returns of Russian Standard from licensees or customers.

Money seems to be the main thing for pro-Russian paid for vodka comments. Vodka, Russian by name or make is the foremost weapon in the war against Yukon FN. As for comments about the ethnic cleansing of Ukraine, Canadians don't have a leg to stand on. Suddenly all the anti communists anti fascist anti Government types are coming out in favor of Russian vodka, bizarre,

You’re removing vodka from the shelves that we already paid for? Put it back. Don’t order any more. Idiots. Or are you smarter than you look, and you took it all home? Just don’t ever try that with the Grey Goose.

Ah yes, as expected YLC quickly jumps on the latest virtue-signaling bandwagon with Yellow & Blue flags waving.
Why not place Russian and Ukrainian products on the shelf side-by-each and let the customers vote with their free choice?

Really!! Because it is Vodka doesn't mean it is a product of Russia.
READ THE BOTTLE?

Max Mack is right, Ukraine is not exactly an innocent victim here. Governments and people are quick to jump on the virtue signaling band wagon without looking at both side of the story.
The Ukrainian military has an elite special ops unit that are literal Nazis (Google the Azov Battalion) .
It was also widely reported yesterday and criticized by the African Union that Africans were being denied the right to cross the border to safety by Ukrainian border officials.

The procedure YLC should use for the several Russian made vodkas is to reduce and sell off & donate money to the Red Cross for Ukrainian relief and discontinue carrying the 6 listings. All Russian made vodkas in stock by YLC are all paid for & owned by the YLC. So removing them from the shelf now doesn't affect Russia or the Agents representing the products. The YLC employed a similar procedure back in the 80's when all South African products were suddenly discontinued as a protest against Apartheid.

Looks like the Russian trolls moved to the Whitehorse Star comments after being kicked off Twitter and Facebook. Joy.

Grammar Police, Plural vs. Singular on Mar 2, 2022 at 9:34 am

The YG press release is titled "Yukon Liquor Corporation stops selling Russian-produced products" (note the plural PRODUCTS).
But in reality, it's only ONE product.
Tip to YG communications - do not use the plural with S, when it's only single PRODUCT, no S. The title is misleading - please change.
Once again, shows the poor writing and communications skills of some in YG communications

Yukoner, removing a product from the shelves likely means they won't be purchasing any more going forward, so it is more than virtue signaling.

I'd like to laugh at Matthews comment but, Pierre is 100% correct. That was already payed for. They are simply wasting money to signal a virtue. And the absurdity to think Canadian imports from Russian are large enough affect Russian economics. If you want to help go to Ukraine and pick up a rifle. I almost did but it is an oligarch war on both sides, has nothing to do with us.

Is GY also going to ban Ukrainian alcohol, or other Ukrainian products?

Ukraine has been involved in an ethnic-cleansing campaign against ethnic Russians, Russian speakers and anyone else deemed not "pro-Ukrainian" enough in Ukraine for the past +8 years.

When they say they stand in "solidarity with the Ukrainian people", which ones do they mean? Apparently, it doesn't include ethnic Russians and Russian speakers. Disgusting.

The territorial government is heavy on virtue-signalling and light on governing.

FFS! Solidarity, really!?!? Go to the Ukraine and Russian border if you really want to stand in solidarity with the Ukrainians. What a weak minded do nothing significant load of hooey!

I am going to stop drinking Russian vodka for the cause! Great sacrifice there peeps. Maybe when you purchase your replacement vodka you can have a toast for all those who have lost their lives and their livelihoods as a result of the conflict.

We no sell Russian Vodka here in Yukon! Hahaha… LOL.

Yes, I can see how reducing the already dismal options in the arctic for our govie alcoholics really sends a strong message to a country that can do to us what it is doing to Ukraine with about as much resistance..I hate this country. Another YTG classic.
It's Sourdough Rendezvous by the way. Won't go again until that is the name again and will file discrimination next year.

Ok but what are they doing with it? Poring it down the drain? It’s already been bought by the government. Sounds like they are just wasting tax dollars to virtue signal. Everything is a knee jerk reaction with this government.

Ok we need to understand that we’ve already paid for all this vodka so don’t pull it from the shelves..sell it all just don’t order any more.

Meanwhile, I'm currently eating Saudi figs, despite an ongoing Saudi war effort that's led to 400,000 deaths in Yemen. At the same time, millions of Canadians are heating their homes and filling their tanks with Saudi sourced oil and gas. Nothing like a good virtue signal!

Virtue signalling at its best. And what is going to happen to the product, returned, destroyed? If it was already paid for and there is no refund then this seems like a really pointless waste of money.
