Both the Canada Beer Cup Awards and the Toronto Whisky Awards were announced last Wednesday – and the folks at Yukon Brewing enjoyed the day.

At the Canada Beer Cup, put on by the Canadian Craft Brewers Association, Yukon Brewing took home two silver medals, one for Lead Dog Ale and one for their Rye IPA.

Lead Dog Ale has been around for 25 years, yet showed its mettle with its award.

Rye IPA is a seasonal Unplugged beer, and took silver in the IPA category, the one with the greatest number of entries.

And, at the Toronto Whisky Awards, Two Brewers Yukon Single Malt Whisky captured the Best Canadian Single Malt Whisky of all entries in the competition, for its Release 36.

And, its Release 37 was crowned the winner in the Cask Strength category.

“There are over 1,200 breweries in Canada now, and the Canada Beer Cup had over 1,200 entries, so we are more than happy with two silver medals,” said company co-owner Bob Baxter.

“And to top off the day with the award for the Best Canadian Single Malt Whisky, as well as Best Cask Strength Whisk made it a doubly great day.”

Yukon Brewing has been producing beer in Whitehorse since 1997, and single malt whisky since 2009.

Yukon Brewing was formed by Baxter and Alan Hansen in 1997.

The company distributes beer and spirits in Canada and select international destinations.
