The Yukon Party says it’s pleased the territory will include mandatory Holocaust education as part of the curriculum for all students.

Education Minister Jeanie McLean made that known in a letter Tuesday to Copperbelt South MLA Scott Kent.

Kent had written to the minister asking her to commit to ensuring Holocaust education became mandatory in the Yukon.

This followed the British Columbia government’s announcement of Oct. 30 that it will make it mandatory for Grade 10 social studies staring in the 2025-26 school year.

McLean confirmed the Yukon system is based on the B.C. curriculum, which would incorporate Holocaust education into the Yukon’s curriculum as well, the Yukon Party said Thursday.

“Unfortunately, we have seen a recent spike in anti-Semitism across the country,” said Kent.

“While many teachers make a point of teaching their students about the horrors of the Holocaust, it has not been mandatory curriculum.

“Educating students will help ensure past atrocities are not repeated and reduce hate and discrimination in our society.”

The schools should also discuss the internment camps that the Orientals were forced into.

Please teach about all genocides that have happened.
And the ones that are currently happening.
Jews aren't the only victims in the world.

We have seen a recent spike in anti-everything. Maybe we should be teaching a full history of the Israelis and Palestinians conflict and then try and teach some critical thinking. This seems to be what is missing from many of our politicians.
