General manager appointed for 2026 Arctic Winter Games

Megan Cromarty has been named as the general manager of the March 2026 Arctic Winter Games (AWG) to be held in Whitehorse.

Megan Cromarty has been named as the general manager of the March 2026 Arctic Winter Games (AWG) to be held in Whitehorse.

The host society made the announcement today.

Cromarty was born and raised in Haines Junction.

Her passion for the AWG began when she was a young athlete representing Team Yukon at the 1998 and 2000 AWG.

She has worked in the Yukon’s sports and recreation sector for more than 10 years.

Between her role at Sport Yukon and the territorial sport and recreation branch, she has been involved in six AWG six other major multi-sport games.

Cromarty has held various roles from a key planning volunteer on host societies to serving as mission staff, assistant chef de mission and most recently the chef de mission at the 2023 AWG.

“Megan’s passion for sport, her local knowledge and her depth of experience with multi-sport games make her the perfect person for this role,” the society said.

Her term will begin March 11.

“I am honoured to be given the opportunity to take on this position,” Cromarty said.

“I look forward to helping lead the community in developing a Games that not only celebrates the athletes but also showcases our city and territory.

“I want to create unforgettable experience for everyone involved by celebrating the culture of our local First Nations and our passionate sport community as well as all hard-working local businesses and volunteers that make it possible to host events like these.”

Tracey Bilsky, the AWG 2026 president, said the host society “is elated to have discovered a general manager as experienced and passionate about the Arctic Winter Games as Megan Cromarty.

“Her leadership, drive and dedication to excellence promise to elevate the success of the 2026 event.

“We share the same vision, and I eagerly anticipate collaborating with her over the next two years to deliver a phenomenal experience for visitors and Yukoners alike,” Bilsky added.

The AWG, now more than half a century old, are the largest northern multi-sport and culture event in the world.
