If you want to get out of paying that annoying parking ticket, City of Whitehorse officials want to play “let’s make a deal” with you.

The city’s well-known Food For Fines program is likely making its yearly appearance.

If you’re hungry to get out of that ticket for forgetting to feed your meter, the city will be happy to accept a donation of food instead.

If approved, the program, which has been active since 2000, would be in support of the Whitehorse Food Bank, the Skookum Jim Friendship Centre and Kaushee’s Place, the women’s transition home.

The program would run between Nov. 29 and Dec. 13. All non-perishable food items being donated would have to be at least the value of the parking ticket.

Council is expected to approve the program next week at its regular council meeting.
