A new active wildfire in Thistle Creek updated on Thursday night has brought the total number of fires burning in the territory to five.
A new active wildfire in Thistle Creek updated on Thursday night has brought the total number of fires burning in the territory to five.
The others are Dempster Corner, which is burning at 0.1 hectares, Tantalus Butte at 0.04 hectares, Peat Creek with 150 hectares and the Top of the World Highway at 2 hectares.
There have been a total of 21 fires this year, covering just over 318 hectares burned.
As of this morning, fire danger ratings sat at extreme for Burwash, Carmacks, Dawson City, Pelly Farm and Ross River. Areas like Watson Lake, Willow Creek and Stewart Crossing joined that list.
Those with high fire danger ratings include Haines Junction, Whitehorse, Forty Mile and Elk Mountain.
Earlier this week, YG issued a wildfire bulletin noting the territory is seeing smoke haze blowing in from the wildfire near High Level, Alta. The smoke is not from wildfires in or around the Yukon.
