First Nation to mark year since emergency declared
The Carcross-Tagish First Nation (C/TFN) will host a community gathering Friday to mark a year since the current state of emergency came into effect.
The Carcross-Tagish First Nation (C/TFN) will host a community gathering Friday to mark a year since the current state of emergency came into effect.
“It’s been one year since C/TFN announced a state of health emergency due to a crisis of opioid related deaths in the community,” the First Nation said Monday.
“At the time, C/TFN had lost three of our citizens in one month, and we have lost more in the year since.
“This is a crisis we are still living through.”
The gathering will take place at Haa Shagóon Hídi, and is open to members of the public.
The event will include a keynote speech from Dr. James Makokis, a nationally and internationally recognized leader and author in the area of Indigenous health and transgender health.
Participants will also hear remarks from C/TFN deputy Haa Shaa du Hen Darla-Jean Lindstrom and Tracy-Anne McPhee, the minister of Health and Social Services and Justice.
There will also be an opening performance from the Tagish Dancers as well as the official unveiling our new community outreach van.

Yeah, but free drugs will fix all the young folks problems. They won't have a 'stash' augmented by the free stuff, they won't OD. Those Liberals, just have the answer to everything, again, pushed in by the NDP. FN? everyone else? We are so screwed. You can not give an addict enough money, enough drugs, they are always looking for the next hit.
I am so sorry for all the hearts that are broken, the lives lost, the potential of so many, lost. I don't have any answers for anyone. I couldn't fix my own child. But, I know this, free drugs is not the answer, and you, or me, love to the moon and back, can not help anyone that does not want to be helped.

Unfortunately most of the addicts don’t need to provide for themselves. So if you have no responsibility’s, and don’t have to achieve any personal life goals like Graduate high school, go to work, buy a house, get married, start a family, provide for that family through hard work no hands out begging.
Unfortunately the government has created this situation by giving money to people who are not responsible.

Free govt morphine will reduce crime when addicts don't have to be criminals to support an expensive habit. Those who were going to OD eventually will do it sooner and make room in the queue for those who want to help themselves to a better life.

Only going to get worse before it gets better. Because Free drugs will NEVER end a drug crisis.. kind of like giving alcohol to alcoholics to sober up.. exact same principal.. crazy isn't it?
