Decora’s premises were transformed into a hub of holiday cheer recently as more than 350 families gathered to participate in a two-day extravaganza that kicked of the holiday season with Santa Claus.

“This (Dec. 2-3) weekend was truly magical at Decora,” Anne Lewis, Decora’s CEO, said last Thursday.

“Witnessing the joy on the faces of children, families coming together, and the warmth that enveloped our space as Santa made his special appearance was heartwarming.

“Decora has become more than a garden centre; it’s a place where people gather to celebrate, connect, and create lasting memories,” Lewis said.

“Seeing our vision come to life in such a vibrant way reinforces the idea that Decora is an incredible place for the community to come together and celebrate all seasons in Yukon.

“We were especially thrilled to have Santa’s Elves, talented members from the Yukon Theatre For Young People (YTYP), spreading additional holiday cheer.

“Together, we raised $2,700 towards supporting this incredible group, fostering the growth of young talent in our community.”

Angela Drainville of YTYP expressed gratitude for Decora’s role in supporting youth arts and theatre.

“Decora’s dedication to connection, collaboration and community is evident in their support for local organizations like ours.

“We are thankful for their contribution to empowering young talents in our community through the magic of theatre,” Drainville said.

“This gift is truly incredible and will help power our more than 120 young artists in their performances this year.”

The YTYP added a touch of whimsy to the weekend with a pop-up caroling session. Attendees were treated to some sassy serenading of the Grinch, who happened to crash one of the lunchtime events.

The weekend included the first annual Decora Misfit Market, showcasing the talents of eight Yukon entrepreneurs, creators and makers.

“We are committed to supporting local talent and entrepreneurship,” said Lewis.

“The Misfit Market was a wonderful addition to the weekend, highlighting the creativity and innovation of Yukon’s community members and building on Decora’s experiential entrepreneurial hub,” Lewis added.

First opening in 1980 as Decora Landscaping (1980-2000), Decora relaunched in August 2022.
