The bid package says $37.6 million would be spent on operating costs while $9 million would go toward capital expenditures.
The federal government would be the largest contributor at $16.8 million, of which $13.6 million would go toward operating costs with $3 million going toward capital obligations.
The budget identifies a Yukon government contribution of $12.1 million in cash and in-kind services, of which $9.1 million would go toward operating costs and $3 million toward capital costs.
The City of Whitehorse would contribute $3.25 million in cash and in-kind services.
Of that, $250,000 would go toward operating costs with $3 million devoted to capital costs.
The bid package says the largest financial contribution – $11.9 million in cash and in-kind services – will come through sponsorship.
Ticketing is expected to contribute $1 million.
The city’s contribution in the bid package does not, for instance, include the $11 million council agreed to contribute to help cover other expenses, such as the cost of a new arena estimated at $111 million.
The smallest contribution toward capital expenses – $250,000 – would come from merchandise and concessions.
Aside from the $9 million in capital costs, human resources are the next largest expense at $9.9 million, according to the bid package.
Operating costs for volunteers are pegged at $975,000.
A budget of $3.3 million has been identified for village accommodations and services with another $2.2 million identified to provide food services.

Meanwhile, members of the 2027 Canada Winter Games Bid Committee and Bid Evaluation Committee are making a community visit to Whitehorse.
Committee chair Anthony Everett will speak about the visit at a news conference planned for Wednesday afternoon.

Already this project has brought together some big egos for photo ops. It will go over-budget by that much again. Volunteers are already burned out. Most private businesses are facing staff shortages but hey, let's bring in a bunch of out of towners to work on building this white elephant and add further stress to our housing crisis. Can't you all just fly up to Old Crow and stand in front of the new Health Center for your photo ops?
Then again, if you can spent, borrow and spend more then the next government to get elected will have to deal with all that red ink so I guess this project is a double win (if you are a politician). Honestly, any government who plans to spend over 10% of their budget should be forced to have a vote of no confidence in the Legislature and be forced to call an election. That way, you get lots of extra photo ops!

@ CLR must be a Lieberal or a entitled YG worker to afford to live here right now. I will enjoy the move believe me and not to a Lieberal or NDP Province that's for sure. Enjoy the high taxes and no support to those who have to work three jobs and make minimum wage Chump.

Hey a thought for these mini virtue Olympics.
They should re name the high kick component of it, the taxpayer.
So how high can we go and still make solid contact?
Are y’all seeing a pattern yet with these blowholes?
Jeff Healy, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles most certainly could even.
In all matters of government we need to push back hard, with “war like measures” *some state eco lemming...against ALL their stupid.
Folks with that for context, we reside in a target rich environment.
Between stupid and state sanctioned racism, they are the lubricity that keeps the eccentric gears in the Liberal machine well lubed.
...suppose our blood donated via the justices mollycoddling scumbags helps move things too.
Predetermined outcome, they will do as they wish...nobody stops them.

Your absolutely correct. We have kids being pushed through the school system who cannot read at age 17. Time to focus on the generation that will care for us when we are old.

@BnR be careful what you ask for...you might end up with a "plebiscite". A sort of "NON BIDING" vote in the likes of Faro, pushing a dark agenda.

The LIBgov tells us we must pay more for fuel and everything else to reduce our "carbon footprint" but they're going to spendfully waste upwards of a hundred million taxpayer dollars on a two week sports party to see whose kid runs fastest. Meanwhile they blissfully ignore the CWG Elephant in the room with the ginormous "carbon footprint".
When it comes to blatant two-faced hypocrisy, nobody does it as overtly as the LIBgovs: Municipal, Territorial & Federal.

Groucho d'North: Excellent comment. I did not think of the electrical impact. I thought of the traffic, and i thought of staffing inadequacy. YTG is going to have to give everyone paid leave, (not holiday, special or sick) to "volunteer".
You've given everyone more to think about!

So has any of the proponents of this project estimated what the added elecrical load will be and if YEC'/YELC's system can support it without degrading energy supply for existing customers?

I guess we all know what recreation project that our lottery dollars will be going to in the next few years. I think this should be revisited by government. Lottery could be spent on scholarships so that our next generation of youth could pursue post secondary education debt free.

Just keep spending, your doing great. I mean since inflation is now a "world wide phenomenon" and we all supposedly had no way of predicting it, slowing it or stopping it....at all (hahaha). Why would Canada lead with any example of proper fiscal and monetary policy?
Well the answer is, the government did not cause this. Don't we watch the news anymore? The greedy producers and retailers caused inflation. I mean their profits are soaring by 15%...well -8% inflation on the CPI (-10% on the PPI) so their greedy profits are about 7%! Literally has nothing to do with the trillions of new loonies that were just created, bidding up prices on what has always been a limited supply of goods.
Oh well the more spent into existence the more my portfolio grows and grows. When I started buying gold it was only $1300 per ounce CAD. That was 2010, now its $2300 CAD per ounce. Once you understand that the fluxing gold price only represents our fluxing purchasing power, the choice on how to save your wealth becomes clear.
I really mean it guys just keep going spend crazy... your predictable greed is enriching me quite well. Just at the expense of everyone who does not understand what is happening. Or that believe you give a crap beyond your own enrichment.

Wholesale change needs to happen at all levels of government. Also appointments to these groups need to be fresh faced and not looking to build a legacy on the backs of hardworking, taxpayers. I don’t want to sound like chicken little, but change is coming in Ottawa and if I were in government here I would be squirrelling away everything possible. And looking for ways to cut costs across the board.

Where is the economic impact report on the games so residents so we can determine the real impact. Take the $10's of millions and put it into housing. Any fool can see what our city needs are.

We all know that 45 million will turn into at least 55 million if not more Why can’t the general public have a say in this? is it that hard to set up a vote or are they afraid of what the general public thinks.

Absolute garbage, fools math! Try adding 30% at least to that government math, governments that have a pre determined outcome and are waving their Wizard wands sprinkling red pixi dust.
Zero trust in any of the idiots, zero doubt will will eat yet another big steaming bag O shyte...another taxation sodomy...guess they are trying for calluses...given the frequency and deep deep penetration they have in every aspect of our lives...by their elitist design.
Hence my loathing all the idiots, team irrelevant.
The blowholes want a party, the blowholes will get that party, the blowholes are entitled to their entitlements...spending YOUR MONEY,
YOUR CHILDREN'S MONEY...and yup...THEIR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN’s Money too.

We’ll pay more for groceries. And more for housing. And more on heating those homes. And we won’t have nurses or teachers when we need them. Our roads and cliffs will fall apart.
But John will have a cool story to tell at the water cooler on Monday morning about his kid’s performance in the Games over the weekend! Young Kayden is gonna play in the big leagues! And he’s got a Winter Games jacket to wear around town - it will be as cherished and worn as often as his Dad did with his high school graduation ring.
It only cost us $46 million plus interest plus unplanned budget overruns plus unexpected costs - but think of the memories! (and don’t think about old Doris in the hospital who has a overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated nurse juggling her care and 8 other patients through a 12 hour shift - those jackets will be worth it!).

I wonder if they are using the same dim bulbs that YTG has used on all their recent projects. If like the Teslin bridge coming in at well over 2 times the budget in less than a year, just imagine how far off their arena price will be. But it will be too late by then. I love how the government spends like drunken sailors when there is a chance of getting their names on a plaque. They can’t remove the carbon tax from heating fuel for Yukoners because apparently we will run amuck with our doors open and the furnace roaring away. But endless jet traffic and bus shuttling, no problem. That shiny plaque you know. The Government only seems climate aware when it comes to punishing Yukoners. I am so, so done with this bunch.

A vote by taxpayer should hold!
This a a lot of money out of Yukon taxpayers pocket by both City and Yukon as a whole. Interest rates going up, fuel going up, the whole cost of living is going to get very expensive!

What a genius idea to hold the games in Whitehorse. People are struggling with the price of fuel, food, electricity, wood....but let's spend 46.5 million more dollars.
Probably a good reason why nobody else in Canada wanted to host these games!
