COVID cases remain a daily reality

The COVID-19 outbreak in the Yukon is lingering on, with numbers remaining stable at approximately seven cases a day.

By Whitehorse Star on August 2, 2021

The COVID-19 outbreak in the Yukon is lingering on, with numbers remaining stable at approximately seven cases a day.

“The Yukon’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Brendan Hanley, is reporting seven new cases and one probable case of COVID-19 between 12 p.m. Thursday, July 29, and 12 p.m.  (Friday). The number of active cases is currently at 78,” said a media release issued late Friday afternoon.

“Total number of confirmed Yukon cases since March 22, 2020: 596; 534 cases since June 1, including out-of-territory residents diagnosed in the Yukon and probable cases.

“Five of the new cases are in Whitehorse and three in rural Yukon, including the probable case.”

The Yukon government did not make case numbers from the weekend available before press time this afternoon.

The scathing criticism of some First Nations governments over the situation, particularly the government’s plan to relax health restrictions this Wednesday, went quiet over the weekend.

So did the Watson Lake Healthcare News Facebook page, following some intensive activity last week.

Wednesday’s major relaxations involve the use of masks in public places, self-isolation requirements, and the expansion of the number of customers bars and restaurants can admit at one time.

Over the weekend, Hanley issued a public exposure notice for the 10 a.m. July 23 Air Canada flight from Whitehorse to Vancouver.

People may have been exposed to COVID-19 infection if they were on Air Canada flight 8890, with a departure time of 10 a.m., with arrival at 12:26 p.m.

“This is a low-risk public notice,” Hanley stated in the release.

“Anyone who was on this flight is asked to self-monitor and, if symptoms appear, self-isolate, remain at home and arrange to get tested either by calling 867-393-3083 or booking a test online.

“Rural Yukon residents should contact their community health centre to arrange for testing. Anyone on this flight who is not fully vaccinated should pay particular attention.”

See letter.

Thank you Wally, for the "comfort". But every one should be worrying about the debt. Every man, woman and child owes $30,000 as their part of the debt. We are paying 48 billion dollars a year just in interest. Why wouldn't we all worry? Oh.. the money grows on trees? or Trudeau orders the Bank of Canada to print more money? uh huh. The more paper we have without security, the higher our living cost. A roast that was 57.00 2 years ago, is $109.00 this week at Superstore. Two years ago, a $100. bag of groceries fed us for a week. Now? if I can get it, a bag is $100. for noodles, bread, milk, fruit. No meat, no veggies. Shelves are empty, and items limited. There is almost no butter at Superstore, the supplies are limited. They only bring in so many now. When it's gone its gone. Table salt. Was finally able to find some at Super A. Wood? huge increase in cost, making the price of everything built with wood excellerate. Aluminum? Can't get it. Six months to wait for a Dell. Yes. We need to ask our governments to start bringing the debt down. Instead, we are getting hit with income tax hikes, and tax increases on daily use, like gasoline. How many people are living on their rotating credit cards? Seniors and disability are hard hit. Rent went up $600 a month, pensions went up 1.57. If you've ever worked. If you have not paid into CPP, you get huge increases in OAC and GIS. Because every thing is income tested now, those with a job, are forced to pay the bill for those that do not have a job, or on pensions. So..Yeah.. everyone should be concerned.

Israel and lockdown on Aug 5, 2021 at 3:45 pm

@DL actually Israel has imposed restrictions, but is hoping to avoid a lockdown by encouraging vaccination, masks and social distancing - only about 60% of the population has had 2 doses. Israel had lifted most Covid restrictions in early June, but began reimposing some of them last month following the resurgence of cases. From yesterday:
"Nearly 60 percent of Israel's 9.3 million people have had two shots, mostly of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. But about one million Israelis still refuse to be vaccinated even though they are eligible. Israel last week rolled out a booster shot for the over-60s. It has also made children as young as 12 eligible for inoculation."

@Juniper, June, I wouldn't worry so much about the National debt if I were you as your personal liability is not that great.

No virus has been politicized to the extent that covid has. For example, the newly elected Israeli government is currently advocating covid lockdowns for September, even though Israel has the highest covid vaccination rate in the world. The claim is that those vaccines aren't working for the new delta variant that is expected to surge this fall. Surprise, surprise!

Such politicians sing from the same big pharma song book, which pushes vaccines that will require booster shots down the line, all paid for with your tax $$$. In the midst of impending economic ruin, Trudeau has already been heard pushing for the "Great Reset".

Of course it's about the upcoming election. This easing of restrictions is nothing but election strategy. The Liberals need friends. Do they think no one is worried about 1.6 trillion dollar debt? Every man, woman and child in Canada owes 30,000$ !!! That's our share of the debt the Liberals have created. On top of scandals, ill advised legislation, a Red Army stationed in BC. Yup, Trudeau gave China permission to put an Army in BC to "protect" their business interests...then we have poor trade agreements, and really poor health advisors, giving conflicting, or perhaps untruthful health advisories. Oh yeah. The Liberals need friends. Get those masks out, because the Liberals are selling snake oil. If the stores enforce masking, why is it even on the table for lifting?

I don't think relaxing the restrictions is an election ploy. Most of the premiers seem to be moving in the same direction, no matter what party they represent. It looks to me like politicians see the vaccination numbers approaching the milestones they set and they're determined both to honour the commitment they made to when those were reached, and to start shifting focus towards "living with Covid". Because whether the media is reporting on it or not, there's many other costs to these restrictions.

Health officials are undermining them with their overt and subliminal messages to private businesses and local governments that they can keep the restrictions in place. Personally, I will never know if their concern is warranted or not, because they have relayed the message with the same intensity, whether there were zero cases, seven cases, 102, or 26,000. Even 0 cases call for the same restrictions, according to them, (except for the doctor in New Brunswick, who pointed out that the restrictions should match the level of risk.) And that's true across the country. They will never be comfortable lifting restrictions.

We need the politicians to do what they do best, manage multiple priorities in the public interest. Or are we supposed to go into year two of the public emergency act, even as vaccinations reach 80 percent? Anyway, I'll be interested to see how it's handled after Aug. 4.

Hanley, please come clean now. How sick are those new 'cases'? Are they even sick at all? Aren't these new 'cases' the result of the unreliable PCR tests? Even the WHO stated that PCR tests with too high a CT level turn out false positives.

Just tell us right now: what is the CT level of these PCR tests done on Yukoners?

To Max Mack, you hit the nail on the head. The 'relaxing' is all PR for the upcoming elections. Be very concerned for hard lockdowns again if they're re-elected.

Manitoba Chief Microbiologist and Laboratory Specialist states 56% of positive “cases” are not infectious.
On May 10, in Manitoba court, government appointed expert admitted under oath: "PCR test results do not verify infectiousness, and were never intended to be used to diagnose respiratory illnesses."

So why is YTG still using an inappropriate test that's proven to show false positive results? It appears as though they only want more "case" numbers, and accuracy is not actually important.

Max mack.

Yeah, it’s all about getting Trudeau re-elected. The Libs really pulled the wool over the eyes of the entire planet, shutting down the global economy and creating millions of ‘fake’ dead people in their ‘plandemic’. I can’t believe we all fell for it. ::eye roll::

You might wanna work on your emigration papers because the Liberals will again sweep to power in Ottawa given the thin gruel in opposition. I hear Florida is looking for people just like you.

GY and Hanley have formally "relaxed" restrictions, but this is merely a PR ploy. Behind the scenes, they are actively encouraging organizations, businesses and employers to continue with masking and the "safe 6 + 1" etc.

So, are they following "the science"? Or, trying to get Trudeau re-elected while sneakily shifting the onus for "covid management" to business owners? I think the latter applies.
