City council approved $131,734 in city grants to 25 organizations at its meeting last Monday.

The spring grants were recommended by the city’s Recreation Grant Task Force, which met on April 6.

Individual grants range in size from a high of $12,000 to a low of $800.

The Heart of Riverdale was granted the $12,000 to fund its arts camp and youth internship program, for example.

The $800 was granted to Special Olympics Yukon to cover the cost of electrical work.

The grants included $10,000 to the Friends of Mount Sima for snowmaking and chair lift maintenance while $10,000 went to assist the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club with operational expenses.

The grant money is provided by the Communities Lotteries Program.

They’d have an extra $400,000 to use if they had awarded the city hall addition to the low bidder.
Vote em all out next civic election.
