Whitehorse Transit continues to tinker with its schedule on routes that the city has decided need some attention.

According to a statement from Whitehorse Transit, routes 5, 202, 401 and the Riverdale Loop will change effective Thursday.

Maps and schedules are updated at https://whitehorse.ca/transit.

Here’s an overview of what to expect:

1- On the Riverdale Loop, buses will run throughout the day, with no interruption.

2 - On Route 401, extra bus service will be added during peak-times, due to high ridership demand.

3- Route 202 is seeing an adjustment to the route path to improve on-time performance.

From Two Mile Hill, the route will go directly to Fourth Avenue (instead of turning left onto Chilkoot Way).

Leaving downtown, the route will follow Quartz Road to Industrial Road, following Two Mile Hill to the Canada Games Centre.

4 - On Route 5 – which has seen buses be chronically late in recent months – the route is reversing directions in Marwell and Takhini.

Leaving downtown, the route will go north into Marwell and turn left into Takhini, heading south.

Proceeding back downtown, the route will turn left onto Chilkoot Way and back to its normal route.

“This means we’re dropping the Range Point from this route, but this change is offset by the additions for 401,” the city said in a statement on social media.

“We’re enhancing services to ‘Takhini and University’ (route 5N segment) to provide better service for late riders and students,” the city said.

“The bus will leave city hall at 9:40 p.m. and follow its new route path to Yukon University and back, ending at city hall at 10:05 p.m. for our drop-off service at 10:15 p.m.”

Some people commenting on the changes to the routes aren’t particularly happy.

“Will there be a new printed schedule published soon? It’s hard to keep track of all the changes,” noted Nancy Campbell.

Candice Silas posted, “My son relies heavily on transit routes everyday, and it is so hard to keep up with the constant changes.

“Where can we find an updated map or app or something with the most up to date info? This is frustrating!”

Melanie Jensen added, “My son relies on not just the 401 but also the 5N/5S to get to Range Point area.

“I am disappointed that this area will have less service. Also, the app and schedules need to be more user-friendly, as my son has been left waiting in the cold for long periods because the app isn’t working and routes are not updated on Google maps.”
