An Alkan Air aircraft made an emergency landing early Tuesday afternoon at the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport.
An Alkan Air aircraft made an emergency landing early Tuesday afternoon at the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport.
Wendy Tayler, the president of Alkan Air, told the Star the plane had been returning from Dawson City with two crew members and no passengers aboard.
She said the crew noticed the nose wheel was malfunctioning on the approach to the airport.
The pilot advised airport officials of their difficulties, and they alerted their fire department.
The Whitehorse Fire Department was also advised and attended the scene, along with other emergency services personnel.
Tayler said the plane landed without difficulty on its other two wheels, then nosed down as it came to a halt.
There were no injuries.
The plane is now being inspected by Alkan maintenance workers to establish the extent of damage and to assess why the nose wheel failed.
It will take at least a couple of days to carry out that work.
Tayler said there may be nothing more to say about the incident after the inspection and whatever repairs are needed are finished.

That is quite the aircraft tail registration there... I'll bet the pilots were repeating the call sign over and over during the landing even when not communicating with the tower.
