Those looking to make the pilgrimage from Whitehorse to Sin City in the New Year can get aboard Air North's special charter to Las Vegas, departing Jan. 27 and returning Jan. 30.

For $737 plus fees and taxes, passengers can enjoy a direct flight to and from the gambling capital of the world.

It will be the fourth special charter the Yukon airline has organized in the past year, company marketing manager Debra Ryan said today.

The first occured last February, when Air North flew one of its 737s, loaded with well-wishers and dignitaries, to Vancouver for Yukon Day at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

A second charter to B.C.'s Okanagan Valley followed in the spring to coincide with the region's annual wine festival.

In November, Air North arranged a charter to Victoria for local running enthusiasts eager to participate in that city's fall marathon.

Ryan said the airline is open to future charters and to arranging flights to a host of potential destinations.

"We're committed to doing things that make sense, and we invite people to bring us ideas,” said Ryan. "Of course, the availability of a plane and crew is a factor.”

For the Vegas charter, the crew and plane will lay over in the city, which significantly cuts the cost to Air North and passengers.

"If another group came to us and wanted us to fly somewhere and we didn't have ability to stay over, it would become twice as expensive,” Ryan said.

If interest in the Vegas charter is high, Air North will use its newest plane – the 737-400 – which seats 153.

Air North's fleet also includes three 737-200s and four Hawker Siddeley 748s.
