Skookum Wind Too Plenty Much for Tagish Charley's Gasoline Launch
The small gasoline launch, Cariboo City, lately imported from Seattle by Tagish Charley, which he has been fitting up for his own sweet pleasure in cruising around the beautiful chain of lakes in this section of the country, came to grief during Thursday night's high wind and rough sea, and now lies at the head of the lake a sorrowful looking remnant of her former beautiful, floating-hearse-like self. Several unsightly holes are punched in the hull, and the large glass windows of one side and end are smashed in smithereens.
After the workmen had finished her house she was launched and anchored out on the lake. She proved an easy mark for a blindfolded Yukon zephyr, that had one hand tied behind it, which came ambling down the lake, and after dallying with the Cariboo City a few minutes, dragged her anchor, and lifting her upon the rolling bosom of a gentle whitecap, landed her high and dry on the beach.
The Cariboo City is likely to prove a very costly plaything for T. Charley, but as he is reported to have money to burn, he may as well buy gasoline as anything else, and it burns easily, too.
