McDonalds Full-field Soccer Championships wraps up outdoor season

Numerous goals, saves and great passes highlighted this year’s McDonalds Full-field Soccer Championships.
The tournament was held Thursday through Sunday and featured three divisions of competition.
“The tournament went very well,” said Brian Gillen, the president of the Yukon Soccer Association. “There was lots of spectators, lots of games, lots of goals and lots of action. Everybody seemed to show up and play and have a good time.”
The three divisions included the U-12, U-13 and U-16. The U-12 and U-13 division began the tournament on Friday and each group had six teams. There was around 70 players in the U-12 division and 75 in the U-13 division.
The tournament began on Thursday in the U-16 division because there was 10 teams and approximately 130 players.
Games consisted of two 30 minute halfs and the playoff round, if needed, included extra time and penalty kicks.
Round robin play concluded on Saturday with the top four teams in the U-16 division qualifying for the playoffs, while all six teams in the other two divisions qualified for the medal round.
The team that finished first in both the U-12 and U-13 division received an automatic berth in the semi finals.
Woodhouse Consulting finished on top in the U-12 division, defeating Sportlife by the close score of 2-1.
Woodhouse had placed first overall in the round robin, while Sportlife made it to the final after beating the eventual bronze medalists 4-2.
The U-13 division also had another competitive gold medal game. Southern Lakes Yard Support team won the gold, beating Remax by a 3-2 score.
Both teams held their own, with Remax applying a lot of pressure in the final minutes of the game.
MicMac Toyota finished in first place in the U-16 division, winning 4-1 over Bumper to Bumper. MicMac Toyota, Energy North and Bumper to Bumper had undefeated records in the round robin.
Energy North finished in third place, beating EBA Engineering 8-1.
