Cinderwood’s bench boss, Jay Glass had his young team ready for action Monday night as they prepared to play Casa Loma, who just happens to have university hockey players Jared Tuton and Robbie Warner on their roster.
The game was a part of a summer rec league, which is being run by Joe Martin.
The purpose is to help maintain the fitness levels of the young hockey players of Whitehorse for their Junior Hockey tryouts in August.
The league is called the Whitehorse Summer Hockey League (WSHL) and features four teams. The four teams include Cinderwood, EBA, Casa Loma and Ketza.
Games consist of two 22 minute periods, which are being played at the Canada Games Centre.
The WSHL will run for five weeks and will conclude Aug. 8 with the first place team squaring off against the second ranked squad.
The third place team will also compete on Aug. 8 against the club, which finishes in fourth.
In Monday’s game, Cinderwood centremen Ted Stephens, who plays for the Moncton Wildcats, and Evan Campbell led all scores with 11 points as they danced around the tired Casa Loma team.
Creston Thunder Cat, Kane Dawe also chipped in with two goals and three assists. Brad Gustafson was in net for Cinderwood and got the win between the pipes.
Don’t count out Casa Loma; they had Currie Dixon in nets who took some time away from goal.
The team will be back and looking to improve on their performance tonight at 8:30 p.m. when they take on Ketza. EBA and Cinderwood play the early game at 6:45 p.m.
