Tickets went on sale Monday for the 2010 Arctic Winter Games in Grande Prairie, Alta., and those who wish to attend are being urged to act fast.
A limited number of tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the two cultural galas are being released.
Ticket chair Heidi Yang says since their release Monday, tickets are going fast.
“We’re really encouraging people to purchase their tickets early,” said Yang.
So far, 300 tickets for each of the gala evenings are already gone out of 500, leaving 200 for each night.
“Those are very limited seats,” said Yang.
She says the two galas will be a place to see all the unique cultures that will be attending the Arctic Winter Games.
“It will be a great opportunity to see other cultures and understand and share,” she said.
Entertainment at the gala will be anything but ordinary.
Yang says they expect to have throat singers and modern rappers in the same building – two genres of music you wouldn’t expect to see at one venue.
Yang says the opening ceremonies will combine the sports and cultures at the event.
“We’re incorporating culture as well as sport,” she said.
Tickets for the sport aspect of the Games are on sale as well.
Spectators will be able to purchase a day pass or a super pass to take in any events they would like at the Games.
The only events not on sale at the moment are some of the final medal rounds.
“Right now we’re finalizing schedules,” said Yang. “Those will be ticketed and sold as individual events.”
Day passes will be $15 for adults, $12 for youth and seniors; super passes are $45 and $40 and medal rounds will be $10 and $7.
Opening and closing ceremony tickets will be $40 for each event and the gala evenings will be $50 for each night.
“We are really encouraging people to come buy their tickets earlier because once they’re sold, they’re sold,” said Yang.
The galas will be held March 11 and 12.
Tickets are available via the Arctic Winter Games website (http://www.awg2010.org) through the Crystal Centre Box Office.
Yang says the website is the best resource for finding tickets.
More information on ticket purchasing as well as a direct link to ticket sales at the Crystal Centre Box Office can be found there.
The 2010 Arctic Winter Games run from March 6 to 13.
Athletes from Alaska, Northern Alberta, Greenland, Northwest Territories, Nunavik, Nunavut, Sami (Northern Europe), Yamal-Nenets (Russia) and the Yukon will compete in a variety of sports in the biennial event.
The 2012 Arctic Winter Games will be held in Whitehorse.
