With 100 teams participating in total, this year’s Yukon River Quest will feature the most competition in the history of the 10 year event.

The window to register for the competition has been closed since midnight on May 1, so no other teams may be added to the race.

Although the roster is presently at 100 teams, this number could drop down if any team choose to withdraw.

Teams have until June 1 to withdraw to be eligible for a 75 per cent entry fee refund.

One tandem team is presently on the wait list. No other teams may be added to the wait list for the river quest.

A final race roster will appear June 1. There will be some shifting of team numbers on that date, so the organizers have a range of numbers from 1-100.

Currently the Yukon River Quest has participation in all five categories that make up the event.

This year the solo kayak category has proven to be the most popular solo method of taking part in the Yukon River Quest. A total of 22 men and three women have registered to race the event in this category.

Four men have registered to race using a solo canoe, which is an open class category.

For the tandem kayak category there are 16 men, three women and five mixed who are set to compete

Fifteen men, five women and 11 mixed are registered in the Tandem canoe category, which is also open class.

Organizers are presently accepting bib sponsorships for paddlers in the race, and are actively recruiting volunteers for the race, which is held June 25-29.

Organizers have also reached a new merchandise agreement with Whitehorse General Store to sell a line of 10th anniversary YRQ products during the race and through an online store. This merchandise will be available by race time.

Yukon River Quest is the World’s longest annual canoe and kayak race.
