Yukon judokas landed on the podium 11 times at the Alaska State Judo Championships in Anchorage last weekend.

“Everyone gave it their all and we fought as one team,” said sensei Richard Zebruck, who travelled with the team. “I couldn’t be happier with everyone’s performance.”

He said tournament veterans Cassandra Jenson, Daniel Tonner, Gabriel Racine and Damon Tonner “handily” won their divisions, while some newcomers to the competitive scene “had solid performances on the mat, showing true grit, and earning their respective medals for the day.”

The Alaska State Championships served as a perfect tune-up for the Yukon Judo Championships, which start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Canada Games Centre.
