DAWSON CITY — The Klondike Ice Queens Invitational Jamboree was held last weekend in the Art and Margaret Fry Arena. There were 44 participants in all, divided into four teams based on skill level and position played.

Most of the players were from Dawson, but 12 women did make the trip from Whitehorse to join in the fun.

Janice Cliff reports that there was a “good handful of rookie or first year players alongside the seasoned players.”

The eight games were close in score and the point spreads were slim, indicating the teams were evenly matched. The games were two period games.

In the end, the Vikweens went up against the Team Rage for the gold. Final score was 1-0 for Team Rage.

MVP for the Vikweens was goalie Stacey Bowden of Whitehorse. Rookie of the year went to France Richards. Queen of the Penalty Box was Alexa Mitchell.

Overall results were: first place, Team Rage; second place, the Vikweens; third place, the Ice Creams; fourth place, the Kings.

The games were followed by a potluck banquet provided by the Ice Queens on Saturday night.

Each of the visiting players was gifted with a Klondike Visitors Association issue Thaw-di-Graw toque.

The trophy for the weekend was made by local carver, Marty Knutson, and features a beaver gnawed base mounted by an engraved “cup.”
