The Dog Powered Sports Association of the Yukon’s mid-distance race will see some route changes this weekend after trail conditions in some area deteriorated.

“Due to trail conditions we had to reroute parts of the trail which resulted in a shortened route to avoid some steep downhills with minimal snow cover,” the Granger Grind Trail Committee said in an email Thursday afternoon. “On the positive side the current race trail is in a great shape and will guarantee a fun race!”

The altered route will have teams starting at the Mount Lorne Community Centre, travelling over McConnell Lake, up the Alligator Lake Trail to Friday Creek and Coal Lake and down by way of Fish Lake to the Sky High Checkpoint.

The return to Mount Lorne Community Centre will follow the same route.

Each leg is 40 miles, said the race committee.

The race will also start 30 minutes later than initially announced and will kick off at 2 p.m., with a musher’s meeting taking place at 11:30 a.m.

The registration has been reopened with no late fees. Registration will close at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The prize purse of $2,400 (so far) will be paid out to the first 10 sled teams and first three skijor teams.
