Yukon biathlete Nadia Moser, after competing in her final World Junior Biathlon Championships on Canada’s junior squad, has been named to the 2018/19 Canadian Senior National Team.

Moser is one of 12 athletes to be named to the senior squad – six men and six women.

This announcement follows an impressive season from the Biathlon Yukon athlete who competed on the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Cup circuit for Canada, one step removed from the top World Cup circuit.

With four available spots for Canadian women on both the World Cup and IBU Cup circuits, team qualifying will take place in early November for spots to compete in those races.

But the 20-year-old Yukoner will be training with the elite in Canmore, Alberta out of the Biathlon Alberta Training Centre as a member of the top Canadian team.

Two other Canadian teams were named with the U20 and U24 National Development Teams – which Moser would have been eligible to be a part of.

Moser competed in her final world junior championships in Estonia placing eighth in the 12.5-kilometre individual competition as the top Canadian out of 71 athletes.

Moser joins top Canadian biathletes Rosanna Crawford, Emma Lunder, Sarah Beaudry, Megan Tandy and Megan Bankes on the women’s national team.

Following the championships, Moser competed in the Canadian Biathlon Championships in Charlo, N.B. at the end of March.

Competing as a junior woman in the 19-20 age group, Moser won the bronze in the 7.5-km sprint race. She placed second behind Bankes in the 10-km pursuit, suffering from a couple of shooting penalties and finishing over two minutes back, while narrowly holding off Emily Dickson who came in 19 seconds back in third.

In the final individual race, the 12.5-km mass start, Moser raced in the senior women’s category rather than race as a junior.

She finished just out of the medals in fourth position.

Moser also took part in the relay race with two fellow Biathlon Yukon teammates who made the trip to the national event.

In the mixed junior relay, the team of Moser, Jake Draper and Romeo Champagne placed fourth out of five teams.

Both Draper and Champagne also competed individually, with Draper at the 17-18 youth level and Champagne in the 15-16 senior boy’s division.

In the pursuit races, Draper placed 13th out of 26 finishers in the 10-km youth men’s race in a time of 38:14.

Champagne was also in the middle of the pack placing 15th of 28 competitors in a 7.5-km time of 36:25.

Draper duplicated his 13th place finish in the 12.5-km individual race and Champagne placed 17th of 27 in the long-distance race with four rounds of shooting.
