A Whitehorse Glacier Bear swimmer is back from a high-level swim meet with four best times and the knowledge that she can go even faster.

Hannah Kingscote, 14, was the lone Glacier Bear to attend the 2017 Swim BC SC AAA Championships held at Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria, while there were five others from the swim club who had qualified.

Kingscote, who raced her first national championships last season, had her best swim of the meet on the first day.

Qualifying for the 100m backstroke A-final in fifth place, she broke her best time for the second time that day in the evening’s final. Kingscote finished sixth with a time of 1:06.23 and set a new club record for the event.

Her longest event, the 200m back, wasn’t quite as strong as the 100m. She qualified for the B-final and finished the event in 16th-place.

“She (swam) a little bit faster than her best time,” said coach Malwina Bukszowana.

“She qualified to B-final with a (belief) that she can go much faster.”

On the final day of the meet, Kingscote swam in two events, the 50m freestyle and the 100m butterfly.

In the 50m free, she finished with the same time as another racer and had to do a swim-off with her to qualify for a final. She touched second and didn’t move on, finishing 17th overall.

Despite her best time in the 100m fly, she didn’t qualify for a final either.

Kingscote holds four club records with the Glacier Bears. In the 11-12 age group she set records for the 50 back (32.01) and 100 back (1:09.88) in 2015.

She also holds records in the 13-14 age group for the 50 back (31.75) set last year and the 100 back (1:06.23) set last weekend.
