Kilrich holds Medicine Chest to 1-1 draw

The Firth Rangers continued their recent hot streak

The Firth Rangers continued their recent hot streak by dominating Tim Hortons in Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League Sunday night.

The 8-2 win kept the Rangers in sole possession of third place, and just four points behind second-place EDI, which ended a short winning streak of its own by dropping a 7-3 decision to Yukon Inn, sitting in fourth but only one point behind Firth.

In the only other action Sunday, the cellar-dwelling Kilrich squad held the league leading Medicine Chest to a 1-1 draw.

Monday night, Air North and the AON Flames played to a 3-3 draw.

Wade Hanna led the Firth Rangers Sunday with two goals and three assists while teammate Wynn Griffith accounted for two goals and two assists, with Kerry Pettitt also scoring two. Maxime Dugre-Sasseville and Doug Cote each scored once and contributed an assist for Firth. Jason Cunning and Jeff O’Farrell recorded the goals for Tim Hortons while Bruce Williams contributed two assists and Chad Cowan one.

Jim Giczi lit it up for Yukon Inn with four goals and an assist and Shawn Kinsella scored once but assisted on three others. Greg Charlie and Garrett Zacharias both scored once. Doug Terry led the response from EDI with a goal and an assist with teammates Rob Thomson and Greg Lane contributing single markers.

In the 1-1 standoff between Medicine Chest and Kilrich, league leading scorer Blayne Monahan scored for the Chest on assists from Ron Cruikshank and Peter Kirby. Lester Balsillie scored for Kilrich with assists from Sean McLeish and Ron Sumanik.

In Monday night action, Rick Smith scored twice for AON with Paul Sullivan scoring the only other marker. Rick Moses, Blaine Demchuk and Brian Gudmundson recorded assists. Gordon Clark scored twice for Air North and Elgin

Schwartz scored once. Daryl Berube, Jeff Jensen and Pete Mostyn recorded assists.

With 10 games remaining in the schedule, Medicine Chest has a lock on first place with a record of 22 wins, seven ties and just three loses in 32 games. The club sits 11 points ahead of second-place EDI.
