Hockey roundup: Goody’s Gas keeps streak alive

A hat trick by Phil Urness gave Goody’s Gas the lead, and they hung on to beat the CRB Nighthawks 7-6 Monday night at Takhini Arena.

A hat trick by Phil Urness gave Goody’s Gas the lead, and they hung on to beat the CRB Nighthawks 7-6 Monday night at Takhini Arena.

With the win, Goody’s Gas improves to 6-0-0, and is the only team still unbeaten in the Whitehorse Rec Hockey League’s B Division.

Urness capped his big night with an assist on Rob Dawe’s first period goal, while Nighthawks sniper Tyson Hawkins scored a hat trick of his own in the loss.

The Nighthawks were coming off an 8-4 win over the Envirolube Oilers on Friday, where Hawkins, Tyson Hope and Justin Lachance had two goals each.

In A Division action last night, the KDFN-New Age Warriors handed the reigning champion Air North-KK Truck Rentals their first loss of the season, 4-3.

Tyrell Hope led the way for the Warriors, scoring twice and adding two assists. The win levelled the Warriors early-season record with Air North-KK Truck Rentals at 5-1-0.

The Firth Rangers remain unbeaten at 5-0-0.

On Monday, SLFS-Murphy Built beat Yukon Brewing 5-3 thanks to two goals by Alain Desrochers.

Yukon Brewing, last year’s runner-up team, is off to a slow start at 1-5-0.

Kilrich’s oldtimer team beat the Klondyke Dental Molars 6-0 Sunday to improve to 7-0-0 on the season.

Six different players scored in the win, while goaltender Jeff Kalles earned the shutout, his second of the season.

Other games saw Air North edge the AON Flames 4-3 on a last-minute goal by Bryce Bekar, Medicine Chest beat Yukon Inn 4-3 courtesy of Ron Limoges’ game-winner, and Firth shut out EDI 2-0 thanks to a strong performance by goalie Scott Casselman.

In women’s hockey league action, Burnt Toast and H&R Block are tied atop the league standings at 3-1-0, while Cardinal Contracting’s Sasha Merrell is the early points leader with 11 in four games.
