Local golfers will join some of the best in the business at Mountain View Golf Club this weekend for the Yukon Hospital Foundation’s fifth annual Skookum Asphalt Charity Pro-Am.

The event has become one of Yukon’s most anticipated tournaments, bringing in CPGA professionals from across the country.

The golf pros team up with local amateur golfers for 18 holes of golf, a banquet dinner, dance and some incredibly unique auction items.

The pro-am is a fundraiser for the Yukon Hospital Foundation, with all proceeds going towards the purchase of equipment that enhances quality care and diagnosis in Yukon, for Yukoners.

Since its inception, the tournament has contributed $270,000 towards the MRI campaign and state-of-the art equipment.

This year’s tournament will support the operating room at Whitehorse General Hospital.

Last year’s professional champion Chris Toth will return, as will Canadian Tour/PGA Tour Canada professional Kent Fukushima who placed second in 2013.

The event kicks off on Saturday morning with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.

The second round will begin shortly after lunch.

Meadow Lakes Golf and Country Club will also host a charity tournament Saturday, as Team Koltun hosts a fund-raiser.

The nine-hole tournament will tee off at 2 p.m. with a shotgun start.

The event will be a best-ball format and will include food. Cost is $60 per person.

The Yukon women’s curling team became the first team from the territory to qualify for the Scotties in 13 years last season.

This weekend’s event is aimed at helping to cover the cost of travel and bonspiel entry next season.
