Shane Carlos burst back onto the local running scene Wednesday, winning the Baked One-Miler.

The race saw a group of 16 diehard runners hit the wet pavement along Millennium Trail, from Spook Creek to the Old Fire Hall, across from Baked Cafe.

Carlos, a former member of the UBC cross-country team, led the way, finishing the route in 4:31.30.

Current UBC cross-country runner Kieran Halliday was second across the line in 4:46:98, followed by Rodney Hulstein in 4:58.29.

Sandra Orban won the female side of the race in 6:08.69.

Four $25 gift cards from Baked were drawn for participants and volunteers post-race.

Meanwhile, Logan Roots earned a top-five finish at the 2015 Summerfast 10-kilometre race in Vancouver last Saturday.

Roots completed the race in 32:34, eight seconds ahead of his 2014 time, and good for fifth overall.

The race, which sees runners complete a lap along the Stanley Park seawall, also serves as the B.C. 10-km Road Race Championships.
