Carlos, Campbell post quickest time in five-km fun run and walk

Shane Carlos put up another blistering pace to post the fastest time in Tuesday evening’s five-kilometre fun run and walk.

Shane Carlos put up another blistering pace to post the fastest time in Tuesday evening’s five-kilometre fun run and walk.

Carlos completed the run in 16 minutes and 29 seconds, or more than a minute ahead of second place Luke Carlos who clocked in at 17:48.

Rodney Hulstein finished third among the males, in a time of 18:30 or just two seconds ahead of fourth place Jeff Larsen.

In the female class, Kathleen Campbell dominated with a time of 23:05. Chelsea Jeffery finished second in 25:36, Selena Boothroyd was third in 26:16 and Coralie Ullyett was fourth with a time of 27:00.

The only male in the five-kilometre walking event, John Storms completed the distance in 30:56.

Bonnie Love, the only female in the five-kilometre walk, finished in a time of 35:15.

In last week’s five-kilometre road race championship, Shane Carlos, competing in the masters 35-to-39 category, took home top honours with a time of 16:32, just three seconds off his pace on Tuesday.

Luke Carlos, competing in the same class, was the second fastest last week with a time of 18:10, or 24 seconds ahead of third-place Darby McIntyre who was competing in the junior male 18-19 class.

Scott Williams, running in the masters 45-49 class, was fourth in a time of 18:54.

Sherri Hogeboom, competing in the masters 55-59 class, was the fastest in the women’s championship race, in a time of 24:43. Donna Jones – masters 60-64 – was second in a time of 26:14 followed by the third-place time of 26:36 by Coralie Ullyett in the open 20-34 class.

Selena Boothroyd, running in the masters 45-49 class, was the fourth fastest female, in a time of 28:36.

The only five-kilometre walkers, John Storms and Bonnie Love, crossed the line together in a time of 34:57.
