YP to attend Mineral Exploration Roundup

The Yukon Party official Opposition will send a delegation to this month’s annual Mineral Exploration Roundup in Vancouver.

The Yukon Party official Opposition will send a delegation to this month’s annual Mineral Exploration Roundup in Vancouver.

“While at the conference, the delegation, consisting of Stacey Hassard, Scott Kent and Wade Istchenko, will stand up for Yukon by promoting investment in the territory’s mineral sector,” the party said today.

“During their time, they will meet with mining and exploration companies that are currently conducting or looking to conduct business in Yukon.”

Mining and exploration are an important part of our territory’s past, the party said, and will continue to play a critical role in the Yukon’s economic future.

“As members of the official Opposition, an integral part of our role is to support Yukon’s mining industry that has done so much in building the territory and making it the place it is today,” said Kent, the critic for Energy, Mines and Resources.

“By attending Roundup, we will be able to hear directly from members of the mining sector to ensure that their voices are heard.”

In the 2016 election campaign, the Yukon Party committed to a number of initiatives to support the mining sector and the thousands of Yukoners it benefits, including:

• the creation of a Mineral Exploration Tax Credit and the investment of additional funds into the Yukon Mineral Exploration Program to jumpstart mineral exploration and create more jobs for Yukoners;

• continued support to the Yukon Chamber of Mines, the Klondike Placer Miners Association, and the Yukon Mineral Advisory Board;

• the establishment of a clear permitting regime with established timelines to allow greater certainty around access to resources, water licences and permits; and

• working with the federal government to build road and power infrastructure connecting to Yukon’s mineral rich areas.

“While none of these were included in the platform of the current government, they are all initiatives the official Opposition will advocate that the government consider implementing,” the party said.

“At the end of the day, we simply want the government to consider what they will do to support economic growth, and create jobs in the mining sector,” Kent added.

@Lost in the Yukon. Good to see the Premier and various Ministers at Round Up. Much appreciated by the mining industry to meet them. Did not see the whole YG Cabinet there - perhaps you are mixing up your comments with the other CBC news story: re: NWT. Good to see that you are still lost.

With Sunny Ways now saying we are $8,000,000 in debt, how can he justify sending his whole cabinet and others to this event in Vancouver?

Nice tax payer paid holiday for Sunny Ways and gang. What the heck, I guess its just other people's money so why worry.

are in industrial development and operations, which include, mining, oil and gas, forestry, etc. Get in touch with the facts and get a positive attitude. The last thing the Yukon needs is a group of negative people, which stops any government from doing their job. Wilf Carter

Three members of a Party that just lost an election
A Party that does not have a permanent leader
A Party that will NOT BE IN POWER for at least FOUR years.
Who are these guys REALLY representing - smells putrid to me

Extra portion of Alberta beef for our brave representatives after a hard day's standing around and supping free-trade coffee and collecting promotional knick-knacks. Don't forget the foot-stool Scotty, for when you need to look em in the eye and tell 'em this is the place to invest. Bon Voyage and Bon Chance !

I know a lot of you are all high and mighty Yukoners who know so much more then everyone else but here's a news flash for you: Having a presence at these events actually does help!! You realize 95% of the world has no clue where the Yukon even is on a map right? When you Regular Einsteins come up with a better idea on how to generate income and sorely needed jobs for the Yukon private sector (you know, we DO have one here), feel free to present your plan and apply for funds to attend trade shows. But you don't have a plan and you never have/never will. All you have is a sore back from sitting in your chair collecting your government pay cheques for so long. Try aspirin, I hear it helps.

How is this any different than the the NDP Official Opposition going to the 2016 Round Up?
To be fair it should read Old Boys and Girls Network. Each party has a network ready to take a turn at the trough and the lines between them are sometimes blurred.

Not at all a fan of ex-Liberal Kent but making fun of his height is taking the low road.
It takes hard rock metal mines to build wind turbines and solar panels. The metal has to come from somewhere. Properly done it could benefit the Yukon to be part of it.

Wee Scotty on his travels 'on behalf of the Territory' once more. Good for you Napoleon, and have an extra slice of beef during the Yukon Night free-for-all on us taxpayers whilst you are at it.
