Whitehorse RCMP are investigating two deaths in the McIntyre subdivision and a suspicious death in Riverdale.

The RCMP confirmed Thursday afternoon that two women were found deceased at a residence in McIntyre earlier this week.

On Wednesday, the Yukon RCMP released a short statement that they were “dispatched to a residence in the McIntyre subdivision after receiving a reported death.”

At the time, they did not confirm whether any deceased persons were found on-scene.

Following news of the deaths, the Kwanlin Dün First Nation lit a sacred fire near the community’s baseball diamond Wednesday afternoon.

Spokesperson Marie-Louise Boylan said today it’s a place for citizens and community members to gather.

The First Nation’s health and justice departments are providing outreach teams, Boylan added.

“It’s a difficult time, obviously. The families are grieving and the community is grieving,” she said.

She added that there are increased patrols from the RCMP and Kwanlin Dün Department of Justice to support the well-being of the community.

RCMP have not released the women’s names.

They say that no other information is being released at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.

RCMP also confirmed late Thursday afternoon that the “sudden death” reported on April 6 was that of 45-year-old Whitehorse resident Greg Dawson. They say his death is being treated as suspicious.

According to the results of an autopsy performed April 10, foul play could not be ruled out in the death.

The Yukon RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.

RCMP say investigators canvassed the Riverdale neighbourhood to speak with anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area prior to Dawson’s death.

Police are asking anyone with information on Dawson’s activities or whereabouts in the days leading up to his death to contact them at 667-5555.

We need to be told if we are in danger as a community?? It seems to be hush hush, The RCMP have to tell the public what is happening.
