Suspect sought in gas station robbery

Bernie’s Race Trac Gas has been robbed again.

By Rhiannon Russell on April 20, 2015

Bernie’s Race Trac Gas has been robbed again.

At about 10:25 p.m. last Wednesday, an employee at the Hamilton Boulevard gas station contacted Whitehorse RCMP to report that a man had confronted the clerk with a weapon and fled with an unknown amount of cash.

The employee was not injured.

Police attended and, with the assistance of the Police Dog Services, recovered a small portion of the stolen cash.

Const. Michelle Faulkner said this morning roughly $700 was taken. The suspect has not been found.

Police are not revealing what type of weapon was used to avoid impeding the investigation, said Faulkner. But it was not a firearm.

The initial investigation involved the M Division Forensic Identification Unit.

Faulkner said the unit is able to gather evidence at the scene of a crime that can’t be transported back to the RCMP detachment – such as fingerprints on immovable objects like a door or countertop.

The male suspect is described to be in his early 20s, about 5’8 to 5’10 tall, with medium complexion and build. He was wearing jeans and a dark hoodie.

The gas station has been robbed several times over the years.

The last reported robbery was August 2014, when a man wearing a ski mask and brandishing a knife made off with cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets.

That case is unsolved, said Faulkner.

She said Bernie’s location – isolated, with easy access from the road – is likely the reason for its frequent victimization.

A man who answered the phone at the gas station this morning declined to comment on the incident.

A surveillance camera captured a shot of the suspect.

Anyone with information related to the robbery or his identity is asked to call RCMP at 667-5555.

I think this guy will be caught but worry that our judicial system will enable future crimes.

I think everyone, business and home should put in a few drop cams. They are super easy to install and creates a web page so you can check out your home or car from your phone or tablet, computer. After my robbery I put them in my home and on my car.... though this young scumbag obviously isn't afraid of being identified..I think Josey is right..he's afraid of the stern talking to he'll get when picked up... but at least with a web cam you can see who it is..

Yes indeed eh, gotta try and be PC.
Better than "non white" as reported in another (gasp) recent crime event I guess?
Gladue will ensure the hooded scumbag still has a few chances of killing/maiming maybe raping before being sent to culture camp to make dream catchers?
Is it not a blast (gazillion % sarc) to be so hung up on race issues that Gladue is even tolerated.
Certain he is fearing the stern talking to he might get.

Given the location they should lock the doors at 8 pm and take money up front for gas and run a window service that might cut down on being ripped off.
