Royal children won’t visit territory

Yukoners hoping to catch a glimpse of the future bearers of the crown are in for a disappointment.

Yukoners hoping to catch a glimpse of the future bearers of the crown are in for a disappointment.

The royal children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will not be accompanying their parents on next week’s Yukon portion of their royal tour of western Canada, a territorial government spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will keep Victoria as their home base. The kids will stay in that city while their parents visit destinations around British Columbia and the Yukon.

Prince William and Kate will land in Whitehorse on Tuesday evening. They will meet members of the Canadian Rangers before moving to the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre for a performance.

On Wednesday, the couple will visit the MacBride Museum and attend a street party on Main Street that’s open to the public.

After the festival, the couple will drive out to Carcross to see a mountain biking demonstration on Montana Mountain.

The couple will return to Whitehorse the same day and fly back to Victoria.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office has consistently refused to say whether he plans to attend the Yukon segment of the visit. Hello Canada, a magazine which has published a big spread on the pending visit, has reported he will be in the territory.

Commuters be warned: traffic is expected to get a little hairy in and around Whitehorse and Carcross during the royal tour, with disruptions expected throughout Tuesday evening and Wednesday.

Below is a list of closures scheduled during the royal visit:

Tuesday

The Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre will be closed to the public all day Tuesday, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The 100 block of Main St. and Steele St., and Front St. from Jarvis St. to Lambert St. will be closed all day Tuesday starting at 7 a.m. and most of Wednesday.

The Riverfront Trail east of the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre will be closed from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The Whitehorse Public Library will close early Tuesday, at 5 p.m.

The north airport access road will be closed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Wednesday

In Whitehorse:

The same portions of Main, Steele and Front streets will be closed all morning and some of Wednesday afternoon. They will reopen at 3 p.m.

The MacBride Museum will reopen at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

In Carcross:

Vehicle access to the community will be limited to Carcross residents only between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Montana Mountain will be closed to the public from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Carcross Commons will be closed from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The Carcross pedestrian bridge will be closed between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Hi guncache....yes it is a drag, a bummer even. The Star is a private company, the comment section is part of it and unless you have a bakery and refuse to bake a happy jihadist cake, gay wedding etc. You can refuse who deals with your company. Moderation may near pee with some of my words sent, many many are purged or sanitized.
We do not have free speech here in Canada, you are thinking of USofEh.
We have freedom of expression, and get waaaaaaaay more exposure when one regurgitates the narrative vilified when not.
Best I can offer for a suggestion is your own channel on the web.
In the next while I may be doing just that, as I have a lot to say in these engineered times and tired of wading in a pool so full of leftists.
The news will not even accept much less edit a post of mine.
Moderation here can be ridiculous.
Example last week I tried spelling yuuuuuge but got an edit bringing in a H instead of a Y.
Get your own channel, as I will be before the spring...at YHRC by fall most certainly.
Despite the important role the media could play in checks and balances, they choose to act as leftist propaganda and all whom do not have cognitive impairment can see this.

I do hope they clear the drunks off Main Street tomorrow. No matter what our opinion of Royalty is I want the Yukon to shine in any visitors eyes. I am proud of Whitehorse and I have worked and paid my taxes for many, many years to help the Yukon move forward and keep up with the rest of the world.

I posted a comment earlier but I guess the administrator didn't like it. So much for free speech. Who gives a rats' ---- about royalty. Are we ever lucky to be picking up the tab for these millionaires.

Some may take this as bad news, I do not.
I look at it as a few less mouths to feed and less sycophants ooooing over privilege.
