Two female youth are facing charges in connection with a break-in early this morning at a restaurant in downtown Whitehorse.

One faces a charge of breaking and entering, and the other will be charged with possession of property obtained by crime with a value less than $5,000.

Whitehorse RCMP responded to a business alarm at Antoinette’s at about 4:30 a.m.

“It was determined that the business had been broken into and the point of entry was through a ‘smashed’ window,” police said in a news release this morning. Liquor bottles were stolen, said Const. Michelle Faulkner.

Several young people were observed running away from the scene and “several” were arrested nearby, police said.

Two are facing charges.

Pay -- unfortunately these delinquents probably don't have "parents" but mere guardians who birthed them. I agree with you whole heartedly though. I feel bad for the business owners who will end up having to eat the costs.

I agree the kids should have to work off the debt. If they can't work off the debt than at least they should have to walk around with signs saying what they did wrong. Sometimes embarrassment goes a long way. Also the parents should be right there with them.

I hope the parents are held accountable for these 'kids' who committed this crime. Why should the business owner have to incur the costs and increased insurance rates because children were running around unsupervised. If the parents can't pay then the 'kids' should have to work off the costs; maybe then they will learn some respect!

This article states "youth" and "young people", I assume since no names were named these were school aged children.
What are school aged children doing out in the middle of the night in the middle of the week aside from committing crimes?

The youngsters today are pretty brazen. They know their rights, they know there will be no repercussions for their actions.

Lack of justice, God knows there is no lack of law..but lack of any meaningful deterrents is one day going to end in tragedy.
