Anyone with information about a truck that took out two lamp posts on the Hamilton Boulevard extension early Monday morning is being asked to contact Whitehorse RCMP.

Police, City of Whitehorse firefighters and ATCO Electric Yukon workers were called to the scene just after 3 a.m. Monday.

They arrived after a witness reported it appeared a truck had hit and knocked over a light post on the road.

The truck was in the ditch, but a trailer attached to it was partially blocking the roadway.

The driver of the truck was not on the scene when police arrived. The matter continues to be under investigation.

Those with information are asked to call police at 667-5555.

@Rorex1983, not every vehicle gets reported immediately. I didn't find out mine was stolen until 36 hours or so after I parked it the night before. And when I called the cops to report it, they'd already found it. I'm just lucky the idiot who couldn't drive a stick put in into a snow bank and ditch and didn't take out a lamppost or someone else.

Now... sure odds are more likely that the driver was impaired... But you have to be able to prove that they were the driver.

Leaving the scene of an accident appears to be the minimum charge in store for this one. Haul it away and put it up for auction would be a suitable penalty I think.

Call me crazy, but unless the vehicle was reported stolen isn't the registered owner likely the driver. Yet another case of drunk driving.

Interesting. A stolen vehicle or did the driver flee the scene because he/she were impaired.

In this town it could easily be either situation. Time to go hard on impaired driving in Whitehorse, it happens far too often and too many innocent people are harmed!
