Flight 106, the local chapter of the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA), will host its popular COPA for Kids event on May 26.

It will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport.

The event will enable young people aged eight to 17 to go for a free flight in one of the members’ own aircraft.

Pilots will be operating from the Alkan Air Flight Training Centre at 130 Condor Rd.

This year, the event is being held in conjunction with the season kick-off barbecue at the Yukon Transportation Museum, so families can come and make a day of it.

A 1943 Beech Staggerwing biplane will be on display at the museum.

Participants aged 14 to 17 in the COPA for Kids program will receive complimentary access to the on-line private pilot ground school course offered by Hangaaar (www.hangaaar.com).

It’s an actual, official ground school course and, upon completion, students are eligible to write the Transport Canada exam.

All kids interested in going for a flight will have to have to fill out a registration and waiver form which must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
