A 31-year-old man was arrested early this morning after two Porter Creek residents reported break-ins at their homes.

At about 1 a.m., a Wann Road resident heard the sound of glass breaking and called police.

While they were on the scene with Police Dog Services personnel, a second call came in from a home on nearby Holly Street.

That resident said he heard someone breaking through the back door. When he went to check it out, he saw someone running away.

Police located and arrested the suspect at about 1:23 a.m. on a neighbourhood trail.

He appeared to be intoxicated, said Const. Dean Hoogland.

“In both cases, it looked like the homeowners were alerted to what was going on,” he said. He couldn’t say if anything was taken from the homes.

The man has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering and one count of failing to comply with probation.

He was scheduled to appear in territorial court later today.

The guy is already off on some 'condition'! How ridiculous is that. He also broke parole, yet still he's free and has some court date down the road...

Hey Thomas....I think it has something to do with due process, but that excuse is mega subject to be flexible depending on the cops concerns.
I suspect political correctness IS playing a role too.
I was actually awoke by the "dog" as mine were freaking, but hey if they are looking for thieving scumbags...wake me up again is cool.

Bring BACK the crime reports complete with those ever so "shocking" photo's!

There were 2 more houses on top of those two that were broken into last night in the same area, so he should be charged with 4 counts

Relax Thomas. When a person is arrested a charge is not instantly laid. The police can't release the name until a charge has been laid. Normally a charge gets laid around 11:00 a.m. If this guy went to court today it is possible his name will be in the paper tomorrow. Believe me, the police are not trying to protect the name of the thief but like everyone else, they have rules to follow. Hopefully he is not a young offender. That being the case we'll never know who he is.

And this repeat offender's name is what?
Seriously, why are the RCMP protecting a thief's identity.... hopefully the Star will check this afternoon's docket and update this article with his name.

Citizens of Whitehorse should know who is breaking into our homes.
